Two young bull elk joined antlers in a bit of a playful tussle in northern California’s Redwood National Park. There was no winner declared but there is definitely a loser.
Ironically enough, the elk kept an old sign with the wording ‘Danger wild elk! Do not approach on foot’ between them for a good 90 seconds and it took quite the beating. The animals knocked the sign loose from one of the posts as cow calls are faintly heard in the background.
Mature bull elk often hold violent battles, sometimes to the death, during the fall mating season with the winner taking control of small groups of cow elk.
