A hunter in search of deer in northwest Oregon instead had an all-too-close encounter with three mountain lions. It happened near Mount Hood some 60 miles east of Portland.
“ jumped on a log probably 120 feet from me and the minute they got on the log, they immediately turned to me and pinned their ears back, pulled their teeth out and started growling at me,” Bill Nylund told KGW-TV. “And finally, I figured I’m going to have to take one of these out of the game.”
He shot and killed a female cougar approximately 50 to 60 feet away. Nyland did have a mountain lion permit and took the animal to the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife.
A mountain lion killed a hiker in the Mount Hood National Forest earlier this year.
