The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation provided funding for a prescribed burn to benefit overall forest health and wildlife habitat in southwestern New Mexico. The habitat stewardship work will cover 320 acres in the Wilderness Ranger District on the Gila National Forest.
Prescribed fire reduces forest fuels while also regenerating forage that benefits elk, deer and a vast array of other wildlife.
