RMEF Recognized for Expo, Antlers and Conservation Too
When the National Finals Rodeo rolls into Las Vegas for its annual 10-day run so, too, does the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. RMEF hosts its annual Hunter & Outdoor Christmas Expo in conjunction with the popular Cowboy Christmas in the South Halls of the Las Vegas Convention Center.
Visitors enjoy checking out the best in firearms, optics, hunting gear and apparel, and other outdoors-related items and activities. They also have the opportunity to learn about RMEF’s mission. Since 1984, RMEF and its partners protected or enhanced more than 7.6 million acres of elk habitat nationwide and opened or improved more than 1.2 million acres to public access.
Nevada is home to more than 4,000 members and 12 chapters. Volunteers host banquets and other events to raise funding that is put back on the ground in their home state.
“This year we set records both in how much money we had available to use in the state, and also how much money we raised in the state this year,” Les Smith, RMEF regional director for Nevada, told the Las Vegas Review Journal. “So, we’re going to have a banner year next year.”
Among the display booths on the expo floor is RMEF’s Great Elk Tour, a traveling exhibit featuring massive bull elk mounts offering education about the majestic animals, hunting and conservation.
The 2019 Hunter & Outdoor Christmas Expo was presented by Cinch, and other expo sponsors included Alps OutdoorZ, Bass Pro Shops/Cabela’s, Browning, Chevrolet, Henry, The Mirage, MTN OPS, Peak/Blue Def, Realtree, Remington, Traeger, Weatherby, and YETI.
